One feature I like in iOS 18 is the ability to transcribe recordings that are made using the Voice Memos app. I will give the steps below for doing this. Since I am blind and use VoiceOver, I will give the steps for VoiceOver users. If you do not use VoiceOver, you would just tap once instead of double-tapping whenever I tell you to double-tap.
- Open Voice Memos and create a recording.
- Stop the recording.
- Start flicking left or right and see if VoiceOver says “transcription available.”
- Find More Actions and double-tap.
- Two things in that menu will be view transcription and copy transcription. Double-tap on the one you want.
That’s all there is to it.
While I was doing a test recording for this post, I found another new feature in Voice Memos. At least, I don’t remember this being in iOS 17. If I stop a recording, I can continue where I left off. I double-tap on Edit Recording. Then there is a resume button.
